Whether we like it or not, there is a distinct limit to how much we can concentrate in a day. For most people, the longest time that they can focus or the longest attention span, is twenty minutes. On average though, people have an attention span that is shorter than a goldfish!
When this is the case, a fact that is pretty irrefutable, it’s hard to even think of trying to focus for longer. The problem is that we have lost our attention spans over time which makes it harder and harder to pay attention and concentrate on objects or materials.
With these tips, you will find that it is easier to focus and you can unlock your potential by enhancing your concentration with six habits for your work day.
Use a Focus
We each have a different way of focusing and finding our groove. For some people this can be music and for other people this can be a mindless show or what i like to call background noise. From music videos, to study-type music like the videos with the young girl sitting at a cityscape window, there are plenty of ways to try and get yourself to focus.
The one thing that you want to stay away from is anything that is more interesting than the work that you are doing. This means watching anime or any sort of show is probably a no-go for most people. At that point, you would be multitasking which is talked about later on.
Optimize Your Diet and Supplements
One of the biggest things that can help you out is making sure that you are eating a well balanced diet and for good reason. The brain requires more energy than you think it might. It takes a lot of hard work to keep the body going and it can also take a lot to keep you on track.
This is where taking supplements and other holistic substances can really help you focus. Without having a high to worry about, taking HIBEGONE and a sativa type marijuana strain would be a great combination for enhanced focus.
If that’s not your thing, herbs like ashwagandha, maca, and moringa are great herbs to take that help enhance concentration and increase energy. There are also proprietary blends of specific mushrooms that can help increase your concentration as well.
Decrease Distractions
Something to remain aware of is how many distractions you have around you at any given time. This can be co-workers, other work, loud music, shows that aren’t helping your focus rate, and more.
This is where definitions can take a funny turn: what you consider a distraction may not be a distraction to someone else. If that is the case, then you have to stop and consider what it is that distracts you and remove those things from your space if possible.
Take Breaks
Believe it or not there is a method to the madness of taking breaks. For example, the Pomodoro method focuses on working for half an hour and then taking a five to ten minute break. It has been found that with these types of breaks the brain can reset and then refocus on the material at hand.
You don’t have to take extra long breaks in order to get the benefit of taking a break in your workplace or with what you are doing. If you have the opportunity, the ten minute mark is usually the sweet spot for taking breaks between tasks.
Since the mind can only focus for a maximum of twenty minutes, it’s okay to push to that thirty minute mark before taking a break. You can also play around with the timing to see what works best for you!
Don’t Multitask
The bane of anyone who has trouble focusing, multitasking! This is where you have one main project that you are trying to work on and then you try to work on one or more other projects.
A project can be considered talking on the phone, watching a video, or working on files simultaneously. This type of work is ineffective and actually decreases productivity.
This is why it is best to focus on one project at a time and work to complete that project to the best of your ability before moving on to the next.
Last Thoughts
Increasing your focus is all about playing it smart. you have to concentrate on your work at hand and not try to multitask, and then there is also using things like music and background noise to your advantage. It’s hard to remember everything that you need to do which is why these five tips are so handy.
They are easy to remember and you can easily recall them. Just remember to use breaks, eat right, and stay on one task at a time and you’ll be good to go!
